Elemental Impurities ICP-MS Analysis
PMRS has incorporated mass spectrometry into the pharmaceutical release process by utilizing an Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS). This instrument allows for extremely accurate and efficient quantitation of targeted elements in materials down to the parts per trillion range.
Elemental impurity testing by ICP-MS is in full compliance with and meets the specifications and procedural outlines listed in USP Chapter <232> “Elemental Impurity Limits” and USP Chapter <233> “Elemental Impurities-Procedures.” PMRS can provide USP <232> and <233> elemental impurities analysis or work with individual Clients to develop custom methods to suit specific analytical requirements.
In tandem with ICP-MS, PMRS utilizes a closed vessel microwave digestion system. Closed vessel digestion is a robust sample preparation method which decreases the time to break down insoluble materials while minimizing loss of targeted elemental impurities. This innovative sample preparation, paired with ICP-MS elemental impurities analysis along with full integration into our LabWare LIMS electronic notebook system, creates a streamlined and highly efficient process to quantify contaminants in a wide variety of sample types.
PMRS has the capability to provide trace metals/heavy metals/elemental impurities analysis for the following target elements: Cadmium, Lead, Arsenic, Mercury, Iridium, Palladium, Platinum, Rhodium, Ruthenium, Molybdenum, Nickel, Vanadium, and Copper. Trace metals analysis gives PMRS the capability to test for residual catalysts such as Platinum and Palladium and may also be substituted for USP compendial limit tests such as limit of Lead, Cadmium, and Nickel.
